Former Deputy Head of the Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan, Raimbek Matraimov, has been extradited from Baku to Bishkek today. This information was reported by Kaktus.media, citing sources in law enforcement agencies.
According to the publication, Raimbek Matraimov was brought back to his homeland on a government plane. Tilek Matraimov, former deputy director of the company "Oshgaz," was also extradited alongside him.
Raimbek Matraimov, who served as the deputy head of customs, had been in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku. The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) had previously informed about this.
The GKNB sent a letter to the Azerbaijani authorities regarding his detention and subsequent extradition to Kyrgyzstan. It was revealed that Raimbek Matraimov was linked to members of a transnational criminal group from Azerbaijan who were detained in Kyrgyzstan, planning an assassination attempt on the leadership of the Kyrgyz Republic, as noted by the GKNB.
Raimbek Matraimov held the position of deputy head of the State Customs Service from 2015 to 2017. Following a change in power in October 2020, he was accused of corruption in customs. The total damage caused by Raimbek Matraimov, according to one criminal case, amounted to 2 billion soms. He repaid them over two months, mostly in the form of property - a building and apartments. The former customs official admitted his guilt and was fined 260,000 soms by the Pervomaysky District Court of Bishkek.
On January 26, 2024, the GKNB declared Raimbek Matraimov wanted. It was reported that in the autumn, Raimbek Matraimov may have left Kyrgyzstan for Turkey and then Dubai.
