in Corruption / Kyrgyzstan - by

The press center of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) has reported the detention of an inspector from the Accounts Chamber for allegedly extorting money from school and kindergarten directors in Bishkek. An investigation uncovered a corrupt scheme within the Accounts Chamber where bribes were taken from the heads of educational institutions.

The inspector was accused of extorting money from the management by claiming to identify financial violations and threatening not to conduct further audits in 19 schools and three children's centers in 2022. Each director was allegedly forced to pay 25,000 soms to fulfill the inspector's demands. The state inspector, M.F.K., has been detained and placed in pre-trial detention.

The GKNB is actively working to uncover and document any illegal activities carried out by employees of the Accounts Chamber.
