President's Office Chief Comments on Scandal with Detained Members of "Mekenchil" Party

in Corruption / Kyrgyzstan - by

Kanybek Tumanbaev, the head of the President's Office and Cabinet of Ministers, has commented on the scandal involving detained members of the "Mekenchil" party.

He confirmed giving $13,000 to Azamat Maripov, one of the detainees, for his wedding, but later Maripov started blackmailing him along with others.

Tumanbaev stated that he informed the president about Maripov's blackmail attempts, leading to a meeting where the issue was addressed.

President Sadyr Japarov warned Maripov against unlawful actions, emphasizing that Maripov mistook kindness for weakness.

Tumanbaev revealed that the hidden camera and wiretapping were installed by a security service officer assigned to him for protection, not for monitoring "Mekenchil" party members.

The recent scandal involving the arrest of six men suspected of assault in Bishkek has sparked discussions on social media, with some users identifying the detainees as "Mekenchil" party members. President Japarov has also commented on the scandal today.
