A police investigator in the Nookat district of the Osh region has been apprehended while receiving 40,000 soms in marked bills. The officer was suspected of extorting 100,000 soms. The General Prosecutor's Office of Kyrgyzstan confirmed the arrest.
The arrest follows another case on April 4th when a senior investigator from the Main Internal Affairs Directorate of Bishkek was detained for extorting a bribe of 160,000 soms. The fight against corruption in Kyrgyzstan continues as law enforcement agencies crack down on officials involved in bribery and extortion schemes.
