Mayor of Bishkek, Aybek Junushaliev, addressed the press regarding the detention of his deputy, Maksatbek Sazykulov. "There are questions being investigated by law enforcement that arose before he became my deputy, when he was an akim. I believe the court will make a decision in the future," he stated.
The mayor emphasized the importance of government and municipal officials carrying out their duties honestly. The State Committee for National Security reported that the city's vice mayor, Maksatbek Sazykulov, was arrested for patronage of the owner of an illegally constructed commercial property. He has been placed in pre-trial detention.
