Islam Matraimov, brother of a former deputy chief of the Customs Service, has been ordered to remain in custody by the Osh City Court. The court rejected the appeal made by his lawyers to change the detention measure.
Matraimov is under suspicion of money laundering, while his brothers Tilek and Ruslan also face similar charges. The State Committee for National Security had previously announced the arrest of the Matraimov brothers.
In March, Raiymbek Matraimov, who was wanted internationally, was apprehended in Baku along with his brothers. He was later extradited to Bishkek and is now facing criminal charges, including illegal deprivation of liberty and money laundering.
Raiymbek Matraimov held the position of deputy chief of the State Customs Service from 2015 to 2017. After a change in leadership in October 2020, he was implicated in corruption at the customs. He confessed to his wrongdoing and was fined by the court.
The State Committee for National Security issued a warrant for Raiymbek Matraimov's arrest in January, suspecting that he may have fled to Turkey or Dubai.
