Details have emerged regarding the arrest of a lawyer who tried to offer a $25,000 bribe to an officer in Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security. The Ministry of Internal Affairs made the announcement.

According to the authorities, a sustained effort led to the dismantling of a channel smuggling a large quantity of drugs from Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan. Earlier this year, two members of an international criminal drug group were apprehended in the Batken region with over 60 kilograms of hashish hidden in two vehicles.

During the investigation, the lawyer representing the drug couriers, M.K.M., approached SCNS officers to seek help in halting the criminal prosecution of the detainees and retrieving the vehicles.

On April 19, 2024, in Bishkek, the lawyer M.K.M., born in 1980, was caught red-handed while attempting to hand over the $25,000 bribe. Later, the intermediary A.A.M., born in 1973, was also arrested. A criminal case has been initiated under Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan. The detainees are currently held at the pre-trial detention center of the Interior Ministry in Bishkek.
