Tax and Auto Inspectors Arrested for Extortion Scheme at Checkpoint

Several employees of the Tax Service, auto inspector, and their intermediary have been detained at the Ak-Tilek checkpoint for systematic extortion from entrepreneurs. The State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that in collaboration with the Customs Service, it was discovered that employees of the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Finance had organized a corrupt scheme to extort money from private entrepreneurs near the Ak-Tilek checkpoint.

As a result, on April 22, senior inspectors of the sector for indirect taxes within the EAEU framework in the Chui region, inspectors of the State Tax Service for indirect taxes in the Chui and Talas regions, a police officer from the Chui region, and an intermediary of the Tax Service employees were arrested. Other possible participants in the criminal group are currently being identified.
