Corruption Scandal Unveiled in Kyrgyzstan: Officials Detained for Abuse of Power

The head of the Ala-Booginsky ayil district in the Ak-Talinsky district of the Naryn region, along with his deputy, government officials, and private company leaders, have been detained for abuse of power. The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) reported that a criminal case has been initiated under Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

It was revealed that officials conspired with construction project managers to illegally put into operation an unfinished football field and a major renovation of a cultural house, causing a total damage of 3.4 million soms to the state.

On March 11, seven individuals were arrested, including the head of the Ala-Booginsky ayil administration, his deputy, senior inspector of the Naryn regional urban planning and architecture department, chief of the Ak-Talinsky district urban planning and architecture department, and representatives of private construction companies.

The suspects have been placed in pre-trial detention at the pre-trial detention center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Naryn. The GKNB is continuing its efforts to identify other individuals involved in the corruption scandal.
