in Healthcare / Kyrgyzstan - by

Two children in Kyrgyzstan have died from measles since the beginning of the year. This information was confirmed by Gulbara Ishenapysova, the director of the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis.

According to her, the children were under one year old and had not been vaccinated due to their age.

Earlier, it was reported that in 2023, 7,046 cases of measles were registered in the country, and by April 17, 2024, the number had risen to 8,209. 37.5% of the cases were children whose parents had refused vaccination.

Last year, there were nine fatal cases: eight among children aged 1 to 18 years and one under a year old (five months).

The Ministry of Health has been instructed to intensify efforts to prevent measles and vaccinate children against it.
