in National Security / Kyrgyzstan - by

The court has changed the preventive measure for Kubanychbek Kadyrov in the so-called Kemir-Abad case to house arrest, as reported by the lawyer Erkin Sadanbekov. Sadanbekov stated that in the morning, the defense lawyers filed motions regarding changing the preventive measure for their clients.

"Only Kubanychbek Kadyrov had his preventive measure changed to house arrest, while the detention of the other nine defendants was extended until May 24," said Erkin Sadanbekov.

On October 22, 2022, a committee supporting the Kemir-Abad reservoir was established, consisting of activists, politicians, and parliament deputies. Mass arrests began on October 23, with 27 individuals being detained on charges of preparing for mass unrest. Currently, nine people remain in custody.

Several international human rights organizations, including the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR), the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), the Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC), the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR), "Freedom Now," and others, have repeatedly called for the release of detained politicians and activists in Kyrgyzstan.
