On May 21st, a 3.9 magnitude earthquake hit Kyrgyzstan, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The underground tremors were registered 217 kilometers southwest of Almaty and 48 kilometers south of Bishkek, at a depth of 11 kilometers.
