in National Security / Kyrgyzstan - by

The "Torugart" and "Irkeshtam" checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border will be temporarily closed on April 4th. This decision was made by the Chinese side in connection with the Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day.

The closure will affect the passage of individuals, vehicles, and cargo through the checkpoints, with operations set to resume on April 5th. The announcement was made by the Information and Communication Department of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Qingming Festival is a time for Chinese people to honor their ancestors by visiting their graves, making offerings, and cleaning the burial sites. It is a traditional holiday that holds significant cultural and historical importance in China.

During this period, the Kyrgyz-Chinese border will see restricted movement to accommodate the observance of this important cultural event. Travelers and traders are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and take note of the temporary closure to avoid any inconveniences.

The closure of the border passes underscores the respect and understanding between the Kyrgyz Republic and China, as both countries recognize and honor each other's cultural traditions and holidays. This temporary measure serves as a reminder of the strong diplomatic ties and mutual respect shared between the two nations.
