Kyrgyzstan Faces Thousands of Earthquakes Annually, Government Takes Precautionary Measures

in National Security / Kyrgyzstan - by

Kyrgyzstan experiences around 13,000 earthquakes annually, as reported by Prime Minister Akylbek Zaparov during a session of the Jogorku Kenesh. Over the past 150 years, the country has recorded over ten strong earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.0 in various regions. Kyrgyz scientists are actively predicting future earthquakes, identifying high-risk zones, and studying the impact on tectonic faults.

Zaparov highlighted the earthquake in Turkey last year with a magnitude of 7.8, emphasizing that earthquakes are a constant occurrence globally. For instance, on April 2nd, 828 earthquakes were recorded in the past 24 hours, with 6,892 in the last seven days, and a staggering 1,217,650 earthquakes over the past three years.

The government's focus on earthquake preparedness and monitoring is crucial for safeguarding the population and infrastructure in Kyrgyzstan. With ongoing research and proactive measures, the country aims to mitigate the impact of seismic activities and enhance resilience in the face of natural disasters.
