in National Security / Kyrgyzstan - by

During a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Meikinbek Abdaliev raised concerns about uranium mining in Kyrgyzstan during WWII. Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Azamat Mambetov refuted the claims, stating that Russia has provided significant funding for the rehabilitation of tailings.

Mambetov highlighted that Russia allocated 2.07 billion rubles in 2013 for the cleanup in Mayluu-Suu and Kadji-Sai, with an additional 2.141 billion rubles promised in a recent agreement. Furthermore, international donors have gathered 44 million euros through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to address tailings in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, with Kyrgyzstan set to receive 28 million euros.
