The Importance of Multilingualism in Kyrgyzstan's Development

in National Security / Kyrgyzstan - by

Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev commented on the speaker of the Parliament's address, where he urged calling children by Kyrgyz names and discussed the status of other languages.

Tashiev emphasized that limiting the use of other languages in our society for the sake of developing or preserving the Kyrgyz language is a misconception. He stated, "Kyrgyz will not develop if there are no other languages. Our future generation should know other languages alongside Kyrgyz."

He highlighted the significance of other languages in understanding the world, introducing new technologies to the country, and keeping pace with global civilization. Tashiev shared that they have been paying two teachers for several years to educate children in villages in Russian and English, aiming for them to learn other languages and explore the world.

Despite his support for multilingualism, Tashiev expressed the importance of the Russian language for future generations. He emphasized the beauty of Kyrgyz Muslim names and encouraged their use.

Previously, the speaker of the Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev suggested abandoning Arabic names and naming children with Kyrgyz names. He proposed blocking cartoons and games in English and Russian for children and creating them in Kyrgyz. Shakiev raised concerns about children in remote villages starting to speak Russian and English.
