in National Security / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Main Directorate for Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Penitentiary Service have conducted operations to expose a criminal group involved in smuggling drugs into correctional facilities. The Ministry of Internal Affairs press service reported that in late February 2024, information surfaced about a group of drug dealers who had contacts with individuals serving sentences and planned to deliver drugs to places of detention.

The State Investigation Service has initiated a criminal case under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic for the illegal production of narcotics with the intent to distribute. On March 6, in a joint operation, officers from the Main Directorate for Criminal Investigation, in cooperation with the State Investigation Service and with the support of special forces, detained the criminal group.

One individual, S.J., born in 1993, was apprehended for transporting drugs from the Toktogul district with the intention of smuggling them into a correctional facility in the Chui region. In Bishkek, a second member of the criminal group, A.N., born in 1994, was also arrested.

During the investigation, irrefutable evidence of the involvement of the detainees in illegal drug trafficking was obtained. Five compressed hashish bricks, each the size of a matchbox, were seized from them. The detained individuals have been placed in a temporary detention facility, and the investigation is ongoing.
