An incident involving the use of firearms occurred on the Kyrgyzstani-Tajikistani section of the state border. This was reported by the Information and Communication Department of the State Border Service of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).
According to the agency, at around 12:20 near the settlement of Ak-Bosogo in the Leilek district of the Batken region, a Kyrgyzstani border patrol noticed Tajikistani citizens - shepherds grazing cattle on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, 250-300 meters away from the state border.
The Tajikistani citizens ignored the demands of the Kyrgyzstani border guards to leave the territory, and furthermore, they started throwing stones at the military personnel. One of the shepherds fired several shots towards the Kyrgyzstani border patrol.
In order to prevent the situation from escalating, the Kyrgyzstani border guards fired warning shots into the air, after which the shepherds fled to the territory of Tajikistan.
Among the Kyrgyzstani border guards, there were no casualties. According to unconfirmed reports, one of the Tajikistani citizens sustained a wound to the leg.
"However, the circumstances under which, when, and where the injury was sustained are unknown, as the Tajikistan law enforcement officials only provided a photograph," noted the Border Service.
A meeting of border representatives from both sides is expected. Currently, the situation on the Kyrgyzstani-Tajikistani section is described as stable.
