Ministry of Foreign Affairs Addresses Protests Against Foreign Citizens in Kyrgyzstan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the protests against foreign citizens that took place on the night of May 17-18, 2024.

In a statement, the Ministry noted that law enforcement agencies in Kyrgyzstan took operational measures to detain individuals involved in the incident, both foreign citizens and Kyrgyz citizens. The situation was completely under the control of the security forces, ensuring the safety of citizens and public order.

"There were no severely injured participants in the incident. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has not received any reports of injured foreign citizens. At the same time, the Ministry calls on representatives of the media and foreign diplomatic missions not to spread unreliable and unverified information," the statement said.

The impromptu protest against foreigners, which began yesterday evening in Bishkek, concluded only in the early hours of May 18. The police managed to negotiate with the participants of the rally, and they opened Chui Avenue and later dispersed.
