In St. Petersburg, the name of Kyrgyz woman Toktogon Altybasarova, who sheltered 150 children evacuated from the besieged Leningrad in 1942, will be immortalized. The TV channel "Saint Petersburg" reported this news.

According to reports, the Center for Family Upbringing Assistance No. 4 received photographs and a copy of the list of the rescued children. This will be part of an exhibition dedicated to the blockade. The documents were brought by Toktogon Altybasarova's son, Marat Abdiev, who emphasized the appreciation in Kyrgyzstan for his mother being remembered in St. Petersburg to this day. In 1942, his mother was only 18 years old. She traveled to villages collecting food to help the children from Leningrad.

"There wasn't even a bed at first. We made everything by hand. Straw mattresses, pillows. And people were sent around the settlement to collect food, clothes, whatever they could with the help of locals. The children were not left hungry," he recounted.

"We have a huge responsibility. We are just at the beginning of this journey. We have established a connection with the blockade museum. They handed over archives to us. We plan to open the exhibition in October," said Olga Galkina, the director of the Center for Family Upbringing Assistance No. 4.

By the decision of the toponymic commission, the Center for Family Upbringing Assistance No. 4 has decided to name it after Toktogon Altybasarova. This decision will officially come into force after the corresponding resolution of the city government.

It was previously announced that the All-Russian motorcycle club "Night Wolves" will dedicate the "Roads of Victory" motor rally in 2024 to Toktogon Altybasarova from Kyrgyzstan.
