Authorities in Tajikistan Postpone Republic Day Celebrations for Navruz Festival

in News / Tajikistan - by

The city of Dushanbe announced the postponement of the "Navruz Carnival" from March 24 to March 25, with festivities starting at 7:00 PM. The reason for the rescheduling was not specified this time.

Earlier plans included President Emomali Rahmon's participation in Navruz celebrations on March 24 at Independence Square in Dushanbe, which was moved to Sunday due to severe weather conditions.

On March 21 and 22, heavy rains in the country led to landslides, road closures, and evacuations. Today, cultural events were held in all parks of the Tajik capital in honor of the festival, which is celebrated until March 27.

This year, Navruz coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, prompting cultural events to mainly take place in the evening.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared March 24 a day of national mourning for the 133 victims of the terrorist attack at "Crocus City Hall," marking the deadliest attack in Russia in 20 years since the tragedy in Beslan in 2004, where 334 people lost their lives.
