Kazakhstan Floods 2024: Over 63,000 Return Home, Massive Relief Efforts Underway

63,009 Kazakhstanis have returned to their homes after the start of the floods. Currently, 5307 people remain in temporary accommodation points, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A total of over 27.3 million cubic meters of meltwater have been diverted and pumped out, with the laying of 8.1 million bags and 1.5 million tons of inert materials completed.

Flood prevention and disinfection work in dried houses and territories continue in the Aqtobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, and North Kazakhstan regions.

In the city of Petropavl, North Kazakhstan region, efforts to pump out meltwater from the remaining 9 flooded courtyard areas are ongoing. Water has been drained from 4 flooded courtyard areas, totaling 64,600 cubic meters.

In the city of Kulsary, Zhyluysky district, the village of Inderbor in the Inder district of the Atyrau region, 61,808 cubic meters of water have been pumped out from flooded areas. In the village of Zhalgansai, Makhambetsky district, water pumping works are completed, while shore strengthening works are ongoing. Round-the-clock monitoring of the water level in the Zhaiyk River is being conducted.

In the villages of Kuilys and Zhaisanbai in the Irgiz district of the Aqtobe region, 2400 bags and 230 tons of inert materials have been laid. Shore strengthening works are continuing.

In the village of Koyandy, Tselinograd district of the Akmola region, rainwater is being pumped out from 11 flooded courtyard areas, streets, and roads. Water has been drained from 9 flooded courtyard areas, with over 5,000 cubic meters pumped out in a day.

In Uralsk, pumping of meltwater from summer cottages and houses continues around the clock using high-performance portable pumping stations. 209,598 cubic meters of water have been pumped out in a day.

A total of 4138 people and 659 units of equipment, 250 water pumping tools, 57 floating devices, and 4 aircraft are involved in flood prevention works.

Scientists have named the floods of 2024 as the largest natural disaster in the past 80 years. The wrath of nature has not only affected Kazakhstan but also other regions.
