Electricity Outage in the Capital Caused by Power Line Accident

in News / Tajikistan - by

An accident on the republican high-voltage power lines led to the power outage in the capital last Friday, according to Parviz Kutbiddinov, a representative of the Dushanbe City Distribution Networks. The incident occurred on the main power line, resulting in the suspension of the country's entire power system.

The increased electricity consumption due to severe cold and heavy snowfall caused the system to overload, leading to the breakdown of certain sections of the power lines. Kutbiddinov highlighted that such situations arise during abnormal weather conditions in energy systems worldwide.

It took over two hours to restore the power supply and address the consequences of the accident. Kutbiddinov emphasized the need for prudent electricity consumption during shortages to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He denied the existence of a consumption limit on electricity in the country and referred to periodic power outages as necessary measures to protect the infrastructure under increased system load. Meanwhile, residents in some areas of the capital continue to report lack of heating and intermittent power cuts as of March 4th.

The blackout on March 1st affected almost the entire country, including the capital, leading to disruptions in water, heating, and communication services. Despite numerous inquiries from the media regarding the cause of the collapse, authorities and relevant agencies remained unresponsive.

Some sources linked the blackout to an accident at the Nurek Hydroelectric Power Plant, which supplies over half of the country's electricity. As of today, residents in certain districts of the capital still face heating issues and periodic power cuts amid the ongoing winter season.
