Russian Expert Denies Reports of Mass Tajik Exodus Amid Migrant Inspection

in News / Tajikistan - by

Vadim Kozhenov, an expert on migrant labor and former head of the dissolved Federation of Migrants of Russia, has stated that there is no mass exodus of Tajik citizens from Russia, as reported by Russian media outlets.

According to Kozhenov, there have been no complaints about entry problems into the Russian Federation at his Migrant Assistance Center.

He noted that the number of migrants from Tajikistan remains relatively stable, with no sharp outflow of people from the labor market.

In 2022, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation granted the Ministry of Justice's lawsuit to liquidate the Federation of Migrants of Russia (FMR), which was established in 2007 and led by Vadim Kozhenov in recent years. He now operates the V.V. Kozhenov Migrant Assistance Center.

Tajik migrants have faced numerous difficulties in recent months following the terrorist attack at "Crocus City Hall," which led to the detention of 12 Tajik citizens, including four directly involved in the attack.

Currently, migrants are experiencing challenges when entering Russian territory, both at airports and ground border crossings, as they undergo thorough security checks.

Russia claims that these measures are necessary due to the ongoing terrorist threat and emphasizes that they are temporary in nature.

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, has stated that there are no obstacles for foreigners to cross the Russian border if they have the necessary documents.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan advised its citizens to temporarily refrain from traveling to Russia, where mass inspections of migrants are currently taking place. Later, they provided updates on the situation at Moscow airports.
