Britain Appoints Catherine Smitton as Ambassador to Tajikistan, Replacing Timothy Marshall Jones

The new Ambassador of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Tajikistan has been appointed - Mrs. Catherine Smitton. She will replace Timothy Marshall Jones in this position.

The information was announced on the British government's website on May 2nd.

The statement highlights that Timothy Marshall Jones, who has been serving in this position since November 2021, will be moving to another position within the diplomatic service.

Catherine Smitton will begin her duties in October 2024.

The government website notes that Smitton has previously worked in British diplomatic missions in Algeria (2020-2023), Nepal (2016-2017), and Pakistan (2013-2015).

News of the appointment of the new ambassador to Tajikistan came a week after the visit of the British Foreign Minister to Dushanbe. On April 22nd, David Cameron met with the President and other high-ranking officials in Tajikistan, and also visited the Nurek Hydroelectric Power Station.
