In Tajikistan, residents in regions previously facing electricity restrictions will now have access to power for 8 hours a day during the month of Ramadan – 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening.
The General Director of the OJSC "Shabakakhoi taksimoti bark" Arvind Gujral has sent an urgent telegram to all branch managers of the company regarding this matter. The telegram states that starting from March 11th, electricity will be provided to the population daily from 04:00 to 08:00 and from 17:00 to 21:00, increasing the number of hours of power supply.
Arvind Gujral demanded strict adherence to the schedule of electricity supply from his subordinates. Previously, according to the order of the General Director of OJSC "Shabakakhoi taksimoti bark," the electricity supply schedule was different – three hours in the morning from 5 to 8 and five hours in the evening from 17 to 22.
However, this schedule was not followed, and in the regions, electricity was only provided for 5-6 hours a day. Since March 1st, when heavy snowfall occurred in Tajikistan, the population was receiving electricity for no more than three hours a day.
On the first day of Ramadan, electricity was indeed provided from 4 to 8 in the morning. In rural areas of Tajikistan, where about 70% of the country's population resides, restrictions were imposed starting from September 20, 2023, and since then, the population has been receiving electricity for 5-7 hours a day.
According to the director of "Barki Tochik" Mahmudumar Azizoda, lifting the restrictions is currently impossible as it depends on weather conditions and the volume of water entering the Nurek HPP reservoir.
As Tajikistan ensures extended electricity supply during Ramadan, the population can now benefit from longer hours of power, improving their daily lives.
