Russian MP Calls for Visa Regime with Tajikistan After Terrorist Attack

in National Security / Tajikistan - by

Mikhail Matveev, a deputy of the State Duma from the Samara region, has emphasized the necessity of implementing a visa regime with Tajikistan. Following the recent terrorist attack at the "Crocus City Hall," the politician highlighted the risks associated with uncontrolled migration. Matveev stated that amidst the ongoing military operation, Russian authorities must prevent the infiltration of unwanted elements into the country, hence the need for a visa regime with Tajikistan and potentially other Central Asian states.

Despite proposing the visa regime, Matveev clarified that it does not imply a complete ban on foreigners entering Russia. However, he expressed doubts about whether his idea would be supported by the majority of his colleagues, citing a prevalent embrace of multiculturalism within the ruling elite.

Matveev underscored the importance of creating conditions for the return of Russian compatriots and the resettlement of Slavic and other European peoples. The deputy's strategic perspective prioritizes fostering an environment conducive to these population movements.
