Authorities in Tajikistan React to Russian Deportations, Create Working Group

in National Security / Tajikistan - by

After the ban on entry and deportation of Tajik migrants from Russia, the authorities of Tajikistan have created a working group and are conducting explanatory work at the country's airports among those returning home or planning to leave the country.

According to the website of the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population of the country, the working group was established "in connection with the cases that occurred with citizens of the republic at the checkpoints when entering Russia."

Starting from May 1, 2024, the working group will be on duty around the clock at the airports of Dushanbe, Khujand, Bokhtar, and Kulyab and will conduct explanatory work among Tajik migrants, provide them with information and necessary materials. Citizens are informed about changes and additions to the legislation of the Russian Federation in the migration sphere, provide information on how to respond to border guards' questions, about patents, temporary registration, etc.

According to the department, "those leaving are told about the need to know the language of the host country, its cultural values, what actions are considered illegal, as well as about extremist and terrorist groups and the prevention of joining them."

The working groups also provide citizens with addresses and phone numbers that migrants can contact in case of problems.

It is worth noting that over the past week, pressure on Tajik migrants in Russia has intensified. Hundreds of citizens of Tajikistan were denied entry at Russian airports and sent back to their homeland. In particular, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, more than 650 Tajik migrants were deported from Vnukovo Airport in just 4 days.

After expressing concern from Tajikistan and handing over a note of protest to Russia in the republic, on the eve of May 3, the presidents of the two countries, Emomali Rahmon and Vladimir Putin, discussed the situation of migrants over the phone.

The President of Russia also invited Emomali Rahmon to participate in an informal meeting of the heads of the CIS countries and events on the occasion of Victory Day, which will take place in Moscow.

It is unknown whether Emomali Rahmon accepted the invitation.

Experts attribute the difficult situation with Tajik migrants to the terrorist act in "Crocus", in which 4 citizens of Tajikistan are suspected of committing.
