Today in Dushanbe, a meeting took place between the General Prosecutor of Tajikistan, Yusuf Rahmon, and his colleague from the Supreme Appellate Court, Turci Bekir Shahin. Shahin is in Tajikistan on a working visit, as reported on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the republic.

During the meeting, they discussed issues related to the prevention and combating of international crimes such as terrorism and extremism, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and other manifestations of transnational crimes that pose a serious threat to all of humanity.

The prosecutors also talked about issues concerning the extradition and transfer of prisoners and the detention of Tajik citizens who are wanted.

"In order to enhance the efficiency of activities during criminal investigations and the prevention of all types of crimes, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Prosecutor General's Offices of Tajikistan and Turkey," the department reported.

Earlier in May, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, Ramazon Rahimzoda, and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the republic, Nikolaas Schermers, discussed cooperation in the field of search, detention, and extradition of criminals.

On April 23, Rahimzoda discussed the issue of the extradition of criminals with his Italian counterpart, Matteo Piantedosi.

"The joint cooperation of law enforcement agencies of both countries can contribute to holding these individuals accountable," Rahimzoda said at the meeting.

In 2023, there were several cases of extradition of Tajik citizens, including from European countries. Tajik authorities claim that the extradition and punishment of these individuals are justified as there is evidence of their involvement in crimes.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Tajikistan, in 2023, more than 200 criminals were arrested and extradited at the request of the country, which is 100 more individuals compared to the previous year.
