The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan stated that it had not been notified by Turkey regarding the introduction of a visa regime for Tajik citizens. According to international practice, the Turkish side was expected to inform Tajikistan in advance about the date of implementing the visa regime.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Shokhin Samadi, mentioned that until receiving official information from Turkey, the Ministry advises Tajik citizens planning to visit Turkey to carefully prepare the necessary documents for their trip. Tajikistan is considering the issue of introducing a visa regime for Turkish citizens in reciprocity.
Earlier reports indicated that Turkey had revoked the visa-free regime for Tajik citizens, as stated in a decree by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan published in the official government gazette, Resmi gazete.
Russian media outlets linked Turkey's decision to the recent terrorist attack at the "Crocus City Hall." Following the attack, Turkey conducted raids against ISIS supporters, who claimed responsibility for the attack.
In April, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported the arrest of two ISIS supporters in Istanbul, including a 37-year-old Tajik citizen, who allegedly planned a terrorist attack in Turkey. The suspects had reportedly visited Turkey before their involvement in the "Crocus" attack.
The terrorist attack at the "Crocus City Hall" occurred on the evening of March 22, resulting in 144 fatalities and 551 injuries. The ISIS cell in Afghanistan, known as "Wilayat Khorasan," claimed responsibility for the attack, while Russian authorities accused Ukraine of involvement, a claim that Kyiv denied.
In connection with the terrorist attack, 11 individuals, mostly Tajik citizens, have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details surrounding the tragic event.
