Ilhom Sayrakhmonzoda, a Tajikistani national, has been detained in Italy on suspicion of terrorist activities at the request of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, as reported by the Tajikistan Ministry of Internal Affairs.
He had been wanted by the National Interpol Bureau in Tajikistan since July 2018 for committing terrorist crimes. The 32-year-old was apprehended at Fiumicino airport upon his arrival in Rome from Eindhoven, Netherlands.
The operation to arrest him was conducted with consideration for "preventive counter-terrorism activities" and the "extreme delicacy" of the current international scenario, according to the Italian police.
Rome was not a stopover but a destination for carrying out a terrorist attack. It is noted that Sayrakhmonzoda is "unknown" in the Italian police databases, with no prior records in the country.
