During a meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in Minsk, Tajikistan's Foreign Minister, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, emphasized the importance of Russian law enforcement agencies adhering to international law and legislation in investigating the March 22 terrorist attack in the Moscow region. Muhriddin stressed the significance of respecting the presumption of innocence, prohibiting torture, and avoiding cruel treatment of detainees.
Muhriddin also condemned the public display of the arrest of alleged perpetrators of the terrorist act, highlighting that using torture to extract confessions is unacceptable. He emphasized the well-known consequences of obtaining confessions through such means. Furthermore, he warned against fostering an atmosphere of hatred, xenophobia, and racism towards foreign citizens in the CIS countries.
The Tajik Foreign Minister expressed the expectation that the investigation into the terrorist attack would be impartial and just. He emphasized that all those involved, including organizers, perpetrators, accomplices, and masterminds, must face consequences for their involvement in the heinous crime.
Addressing the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, Muhriddin underscored Tajikistan's three-decade-long confrontation with unprecedented security challenges. He called for enhanced effectiveness in the activities of the CIS Antiterrorism Center, citing the potential impact of events in Afghanistan on the geopolitical balance across the Eurasian continent.
As Tajikistan navigates these security challenges, Muhriddin's statements reflect the country's commitment to upholding international legal standards and promoting regional security cooperation.
