Tajikistan Urges Citizens to Avoid Traveling to Russia Amid Restrictions

in National Security / Tajikistan - by

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan recommends that citizens of the country temporarily refrain from traveling to the territory of Russia by all means of transport without urgent necessity. This statement was posted on the website of the country's foreign policy department on April 27.

The reason for such a recommendation was not specified.

Earlier on April 26, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sodik Imomi, expressed concern to the Russian Ambassador in Dushanbe, Semen Grigoryev, over the mass cases of citizens of the republic being denied entry into Russia. According to the ministry, such cases have become "massive" in the past few weeks.

Recently, Russia, one of the main countries hosting Tajik migrants, has tightened control over them.

Media outlets in both countries have reported on the pressure exerted by law enforcement agencies on citizens of Tajikistan in Russia.

Additionally, as previously reported, hundreds of Tajik citizens wishing to enter Russia have faced problems at the border between Kazakhstan and the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation: restrictions on the entry of citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan have been introduced at the Russian border.

Some Tajik migrants speculate that this is related to the terrorist attack at "Crocus City Hall," after which 11 citizens of Tajikistan have been arrested.
