A resident of Aktau has reported being beaten by police officers from the city's police department. He claims he was forced to incriminate himself in a theft.
The victim told "Lada" that on March 22, he couldn't start his car to get to work due to a faulty generator that needed replacing. He remembered his friend Viktor, who had generators at a production base in the 21st microdistrict. Upon arriving at the base and taking four devices to test them with an auto electrician, he was unable to reach Viktor. Later, Viktor's brother found the missing generators and reported it to the police.
After fixing his car and placing the remaining generators in the trunk, the man was stopped by traffic police on his way home. They informed him of a crime report against him and suggested going to the police department. The police took his phone and started using foul language, demanding a confession about the generator theft.
Ignoring his explanations, three officers started beating him, hitting his face, body, and legs. When it was confirmed that the theft allegation was false and Viktor refused to file a complaint, the police apologized, asking him not to report to the prosecutor's office. The victim left the police station and immediately filed a complaint with the oversight body.
He was diagnosed with soft tissue contusions in the chest, head, and face, as well as a closed head injury and a concussion. The Mangystau Region Police Department stated that a criminal case has been opened by the prosecutor's office, and the circumstances are under investigation.
Earlier, three police officers were convicted of torture during the January events in Almaty.
