The pre-trial investigation into the economic smuggling of trucks has been completed by the Department of the Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA) in the Almaty region, under the coordination of the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office.
Initiated as part of a large-scale inspection by the FMA, the investigation revealed that a criminal group illegally imported 45 trucks and trailers into Kazakhstan, using counterfeit documents to register them. This resulted in damages to the state in the form of unpaid customs duties amounting to 180 million tenge, as well as registration fees totaling 205 million tenge.
"The investigation materials have been sent to court. According to Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Kazakhstan, no further information can be disclosed," the statement published on the agency's Telegram channel on March 26, 2024, reads.
The FMA reminded of the legal consequences for economic smuggling. On March 14, 2024, it was announced that comprehensive checks on the legality of registering trucks, buses, and other vehicles have commenced in all special economic zones of Kazakhstan to ensure the proper payment of fees.
