Ex-Minister on Trial for Murder: Case of Kuandyk Bishimbayev Begins in Specialized Court

In the specialized inter-district court for criminal cases in the capital, the main trial has begun for the former Minister of National Economy, Kuandyk Bishimbayev, accused of the brutal murder of Saltanat Nukenova.

Alongside the former minister in the dock is his brother, Bakhytzhan Bayzhanov. The case will be heard by a jury.

As the first session commenced, Judge Aizhan Kulbayeva reminded the media representatives that photography and videography of the jury members are prohibited.

It was previously reported that on the morning of March 27, 2024, the selection of jury members for Kuandyk Bishimbayev's case took place. A total of 12 jury members were selected: 10 primary and 2 alternates.

On March 11, 2024, the first hearing took place where the prosecution presented the investigation's version of Kuandyk Bishimbayev's case. According to the indictment, on the day of the murder (November 8, 2023), Kuandyk Bishimbayev and Saltanat Nukenova were at a concert in the capital. An argument ensued between them, which escalated at a restaurant, resulting in the beating and death of Saltanat Nukenova.
