in Corruption / Kazakhstan - by

The official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Shyngys Alekeshov, revealed during a briefing on March 29, 2024, how many police officers were caught selling drugs in Kazakhstan in 2023.

Alekeshov mentioned that unfortunately, there are isolated cases where officers betray the interests of the service. He highlighted that certain aspects of police work are associated with corruption risks. Specifically regarding drug trafficking, three cases were identified last year. He emphasized that 80% of crimes within the police force are self-detected by their own security units, showing their commitment to cleaning up their ranks from dishonest individuals.

The speaker stated that these traitors are identified internally and are held criminally accountable and dismissed for negative reasons to prevent them from returning to law enforcement. The Minister of Internal Affairs closely monitors this issue to ensure accountability.

Alekeshov also shared insights on the payments made to drug dealers by drug stores.
