Former Minister Apologizes in Court for Death of Saltanat Nukenova

The trial of former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev continues in Astana. Today, on April 1, he addressed the court, expressing his apologies to the family of Saltanat Nukenova. Bishimbayev asked for forgiveness, acknowledging the irreparable loss and his involvement in the circumstances leading to it.

He emphasized that he did not plan nor commit the act with intent or cruelty, rejecting the accusations of premeditated murder. Despite acknowledging his connection to the events, he maintained his innocence. Bishimbayev also expressed readiness to face the consequences and respond to any hatred or curses from the family.

The trial, which began on March 27 in Astana, has seen statements from both the accused and the prosecutor, Sayakhat Nurbekov. Nurbekov mentioned that Bishimbayev pursued Nukenova in Astana, inviting her on dates, while Bishimbayev defended himself against what he described as a distorted public image created by the family.
