Kazakhstan Recovers Over 1 Trillion Tenge in Assets in Corruption Case

The official representative of the Anti-Corruption Agency of Kazakhstan, Arman Tleukenov, announced on March 6, 2024, during a briefing the amount of funds that have been recovered as part of the criminal investigation against Kairat Satybaldy.

According to the spokesperson, since 2022, over 1 trillion tenge worth of assets have been returned to the state in total.

"732.8 billion tenge has been returned as part of the criminal investigation against Kairat Satybaldyuly," stated the official representative of the Anti-Corruption Service, Arman Tleukenov.

Journalists also inquired about the acquisition of a hotel while this individual was behind bars. The Anti-Corruption representative promised to provide an answer to this question later, once all details are clarified.

On May 31, 2023, it was reported that Kazakhstan had recovered assets and money from Kairat Satybaldy amounting to 464 billion tenge, in October – assets worth 300 million dollars, in December – money totaling 120 million dollars, exceeding 55.4 billion tenge. On February 8, it was announced that Anti-Corruption had returned an additional 44.6 billion tenge.

On September 26, 2022, Kairat Satybaldy was sentenced to six years in prison for embezzlement in large amounts at Kazakhtelecom JSC and CTS JSC.

In December 2023, Kairat Satybaldy applied for a change in his sentence from imprisonment to restriction of freedom, but he was denied parole.

On January 10, 2024, news emerged about a new investigation into Kairat Satybaldy, the details of which were revealed by the Anti-Corruption Agency.
