Prosecutor's Office Cancels Road Repair Tenders Due to Violations

in Corruption / Kazakhstan - by

The Prosecutor's Office in Uralsk has canceled five road repair tenders worth a total of 1.3 billion tenge. According to a statement from the Prosecutor's Office in the West Kazakhstan region on April 6, 2024, the cancellations were based on violations of anti-dumping requirements.

The violation pertained to the pricing of potential suppliers in road repair tenders. The law considers a supplier's price to be dumping if it is more than 5% lower than the price specified in the technical documentation. However, the "Department of State Procurement of the city of Uralsk" unreasonably inflated the dumping threshold to 20%, allowing suppliers to submit anti-dumping price offers and secure victories in the tenders.

Following supervision, tenders exceeding 1.3 billion tenge were canceled and brought into compliance with the law. These measures aimed to restore fair competition among business entities in government procurement processes.

The press service of the West Kazakhstan region's Prosecutor's Office highlighted that at the beginning of 2024, new rules were introduced for building and repairing roads in Kazakhstan. These rules focus on enhancing the efficiency and timeliness of implementing road projects of international and republican significance.
