A company in the Ulytausk region was fined a large sum for not completing work to prevent flooding. The Agency for Financial Monitoring, under the coordination of the regional prosecutor's office, is conducting a pre-trial investigation against the company's officials. According to the agency, the company had a contract with a state institution for a total of 485.5 million tenge to carry out sanitation of the 2 km-long Zhazdy River to protect nearby areas from erosion during spring floods.

However, a project implementation inspection revealed that construction works worth 282.5 million tenge were not actually performed by the contractor. At the same time, the company had already been paid 400 million tenge based on completion certificates. As a result of these actions, 26 houses were flooded, and 174 people were evacuated, according to the Agency for Financial Monitoring. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Today, on April 11, it was announced that the Agency is also investigating two similar criminal cases in Almaty and Aktobe regions.
