Kazakhstan's National Security Committee Reveals Details of Arrest of Immigration Officers

The National Security Committee (KNB) of Kazakhstan has disclosed the details of the arrest of two employees of the migration service of the Police Department in Taraz. Earlier reports indicated that "the heads of the Taraz migration service were arrested with a bribe." Later, the Department of the KNB in Zhambyl Region confirmed the arrest and specified that on April 10, two employees of the migration service in Taraz were detained on suspicion of receiving illegal payments.

"On April 10 of this year, the KNB Department in Zhambyl Region, together with the department's own security service of the police, detained two employees of the migration service in the Taraz Police Department. They are suspected of receiving a bribe amounting to 500,000 tenge for providing general protection to illegally staying foreign citizens. The detained individuals have been placed in temporary detention. A pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Part 3 of Article 366 ("Bribery") of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan," the KNB of Kazakhstan revealed the details of the arrest.

According to the authorities, other information is not subject to disclosure in accordance with Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Kazakhstan.
