Investigation Launched into Embezzlement of Budget Funds in Kazakhstan Dam Project

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan has commented on a criminal case involving employees of a company constructing a dam in the Ak-sai River basin. Minister Chingis Arinov identified violations during an inspection of the dam, posing a threat to the lives of around 30,000 residents of Almaty.

The Ministry has initiated an inquiry with the management of Kazselezaschita regarding the transfer of relevant materials to the Financial Police of Kazakhstan for further legal action. An investigation into embezzlement of budget funds is underway, targeting individuals from the subcontractor responsible for the project.

On April 11th, the Financial Police announced suspicions of embezzlement of budget funds on a large scale against individuals from the company implementing the dam construction project in the Ak-sai River basin, with an estimated damage exceeding 775 million tenge.
