Anti-corruption officials arrest high-ranking officials in Kazakhstan

The Anti-Corruption Service announced the arrest of the deputy general director of "Almaty Su" and the head of the Entrepreneurship Department in the Kyzylorda region on April 19, 2024. The investigation is ongoing.

According to the released statement, the deputy general director of the state enterprise "Almaty Su" was implicated in a severe corruption offense. He allegedly received 75 million tenge from a local entrepreneur out of an agreed sum of 345 million tenge for signing work completion certificates and disbursing funds for state procurement contracts.

Furthermore, the head of the Entrepreneurship and Industry Department in the Kyzylorda region was also detained by the Anti-Corruption Service. Pre-trial detention measures have been sanctioned by the court for the suspects, and the investigations are ongoing.

The Anti-Corruption Service stressed that any additional information related to the investigation is not to be disclosed in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code. They also emphasized the presumption of innocence for all individuals until proven guilty by a court verdict.

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Service issued a crucial statement urging Kazakh citizens to report any instances of corruption and extortion to the authorities.
