The Chairman of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM), Dmitry Malakhov, has instructed to ensure targeted spending of funds allocated to address the consequences of the recent floods, ensuring they reach all affected citizens. Malakhov emphasized the need for a quality investigation and assessment of where the allocated funds have been utilized.
He urged the heads of the agency's regional departments to scrutinize the rational use of money for the construction of dams, drainage facilities, and riverbed deepening without interfering in the activities of state bodies and economic entities.
It is worth noting that over 140 billion tenge has already been allocated by quasi-state companies, entrepreneurs, and public foundations. However, financial monitoring authorities in several regions have initiated four embezzlement cases, with five individuals being suspected, and the total damage exceeding 1 billion tenge.
Furthermore, preventive measures are being taken to counter the activities of fraudsters who falsely claim to collect money for flood victims. This includes ongoing monitoring of the prices of food, drinking water, medications, and other essential items.
On April 19, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kanat Bozumbaev, instructed relevant ministries to develop a compensation mechanism for the loss or damage of essential property due to the floods within a two-day period.
