Three police officers have been found guilty of torture during the January events in Almaty, as reported by the city prosecutor's office.

According to the supervisory authority, on March 19, 2024, a verdict was announced in the court of Almalinsky district regarding three police officers involved in cases of torture during the January events (Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan). Prosecutors proved that on January 9, 2022, at the Police Department of Almalinsky district, police officers tortured three citizens. "As a result of the unlawful actions, the victims suffered physical pain." The press service of the prosecutor's office in Almaty stated that the accused were sentenced to three years in prison. "They were also stripped of their special ranks and the right to work in public service." It is worth noting that the verdict has not yet come into legal force.

On March 18, 2024, a similar verdict was reached in the court of Taldykorgan, where four former police officers were convicted of torture.
