Eurasian Development Bank Funds Equipment Purchase to Restore Bishkek CHP Operations

In Eurasian Development Bank, details of the signed contract for providing technical assistance for the purchase of equipment for the Bishkek CHP were revealed. The contract was concluded between Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and OJSC "Electric Stations". The project, funded by the Technical Assistance Fund of the bank, aims to eliminate the consequences of the accident at the CHP that occurred on February 2, 2024.

The agreement includes the purchase of necessary equipment, including low-voltage distribution devices, which will ensure protection against overloads and short circuits in the networks. The total project financing amounts to around $500,000, provided as a non-repayable and gratuitous grant.

"We strive not only for the restoration of the functioning of the energy infrastructure but also for improving conditions for the future development and modernization of the city's power supply system," noted Denis Ilyin, Senior Managing Director of EDB.

On the night of February 2, an accident occurred at the Bishkek thermal power plant, injuring five people. Schools and kindergartens in the capital were switched to online learning. Full heat and hot water supply in Bishkek was restored on February 7. On February 9, the republican headquarters announced the completion of liquidation works at the facility. In April, an interdepartmental commission completed its investigation into the causes of the emergency situation at the city's CHP. An explosion occurred in mill No. 18 due to technical and organizational violations, leading to the shutdown of the entire old block of the CHP. The preliminary damage from the accident amounted to 69,630,000 soms.
