A week after the terrorist attack in "Crocus City" (Russia), French intelligence is concerned about security ahead of the upcoming Olympics in Paris. Hosts of the upcoming games plan to increase surveillance on representatives from Central Asian countries.
According to Europe1, French authorities may make security changes at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. On March 28, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin met with representatives of the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) to discuss the Olympic opening plan. French intelligence will intensify monitoring of individuals from Central Asia, including citizens from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
The official opening ceremony of the massive Games will take place outside a sports arena for the first time, on the River Seine, featuring a boat parade with participants. Some media outlets suggest that the French are considering canceling the opening ceremony for the safety of citizens. Organizers of the XXXII Summer Olympics hope that at least 400,000 people will attend the opening ceremony in Paris this summer.
The Olympic Parade of 2024 will be held on July 26 on the famous River Seine. Sporting delegations will float on boats from the Austerlitz Bridge to the Jena Bridge, near the Eiffel Tower. In late 2023, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo promised to swim in the prohibited-for-swimming River Seine before the Olympics' opening.
