Mass evacuation underway in Kazakhstan as floods affect five regions

Chief of the Emergency Situations Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kaharman Orazalin, announced on April 7 that 63,927 people, including 5,283 children, have been evacuated from disaster areas in five regions of Kazakhstan. In Aktobe, Kostanay, Pavlodar, Atyrau, and North Kazakhstan regions, 3,391 private residential homes and 1,059 cottages remain flooded.

So far, a total of 63,927 individuals have been rescued and evacuated, including 45 people with disabilities and 15,283 children. Currently, 13,328 people, including 6,742 children, are being housed in temporary shelters and provided with essential supplies. Psychologists are offering necessary support to those affected.

Additionally, 10,068 heads of livestock have been moved to a safe distance. Orazalin highlighted the skill of pilots from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Defense, and National Guard, who rescued 2,607 individuals, including 760 children, with 243 people saved in the past day alone. The rescue operation faced extremely challenging conditions, requiring people to be evacuated from rooftops using special equipment.

Previously, it was reported that a special commission assessing flood damage had begun accepting applications from residents of Aktobe region. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, over 135 settlements have been saved from flooding.
