On April 7th, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, Shyngys Alekeshev, provided an update on the ministry's efforts during the flood period. Over 5,500 police officers and nearly 1,000 pieces of police equipment are involved in emergency rescue operations. They have cleared drains, laid over 115,000 sandbags, and evacuated 12,600 people, including over 290 using helicopters.
Additional reserves are on standby for deployment from other regions if the situation worsens. The police have secured 1,266 abandoned homes and other buildings, with no reports of looting. Safe shelters have been set up in 87 locations for citizens.
Furthermore, movement restrictions are in place on 17 major roads, and over 3,500 vehicles have been escorted out of flood zones. Protection is also provided for 70 drinking water facilities and 91 water management sites.
The Ministry emphasized the maximum deployment of personnel and resources for flood response. In case of escalation, additional reserves from other regions are ready to be mobilized.
The Ministry of Health also reported on their efforts, detailing the number of medical staff present in the flooded areas of Kazakhstan.
